This is a live recording featuring the duo of Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter—close allies in both their professional and personal lives. Seeing their names brings to mind numerous classics like "Cantaloupe Island," "Footprints," and "Green Dolphin Street," but tonight’s performance offers a different kind of improvisation. That said, it does not veer into avant-garde free jazz, making the music relatively accessible to listen to. While the original recording included a DJ’s introductory speech and an interview with Hancock, these have been edited out. By also removing the cheers between songs and Hancock’s spoken commentary, the material fits onto a single disc and flows with a cohesion that makes it feel like a unified album.
