First, let's pay tribute to Sonny Rollins, who passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on May 25, 2026.
This is a live recording from 1979 by his quartet. Originally an audience recording, it has been remastered and boasts quite good sound quality. While there were some minor issues, such as weaker sound in one channel in certain sections, these have been carefully repaired. From a pop-influenced rendition of Stevie Wonder's "ISN'T SHE LOVELY" to a Lyricon solo on Coltrane's "IMPRESSIONS," this recording showcases Rollins' more electric side compared to his other live performances. The drummer is Al Foster, a key figure in Miles Davis's electric band.
