This collection features live performances by Weather Report from 1973—specifically, a show in Kansas City in May and another in New York City in July. Both recordings have been remastered from high-quality audience master tapes. The Kansas City recording offers a more expansive sound, while the New York City recording features a more focused, centered sound with a punchy, prominent bass line. Both performances are exceptional, packed with improvisation, and are absolute must-hears. Notably, the two shows took place just two months apart, during which time the band’s drummer changed from Eric Gravatt to Greg Errico—a transition well worth listening for and comparing.
The label is gradually expanding its archive of Weather Report live recordings; each release offers plenty of highlights, so be sure to check out the other titles as well.
