This is a live recording of the co-led quartet featuring Sonny Rollins and Don Cherry. It captures a 1963 performance in Paris via a soundboard source and utilizes a new master—prepared earlier this year (2026) by overseas enthusiasts—that includes pitch corrections and other adjustments. Naturally, the label did not simply use the fan-made version as-is; they applied their own remastering. The low-end frequencies, initially weak, were significantly bolstered, and the editing between tracks was refined to further elevate the overall quality. It is truly the latest, upgraded version. The 1960s was an era that saw the evolution of spiritual and free jazz; while not to the same extent as John Coltrane, Rollins also displayed traces of these influences. His partner, Don Cherry, was a maverick who would go on to embody not only spiritual and free jazz but also a wide range of world music, transcending the boundaries of the genre. Billy Higgins, a drummer who participated in numerous Blue Note sessions, provides a powerful foundation for the quartet's sound.
